New Dead or Alive 6 Character Using Pencak Silat Revealed

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced another new original character to debut in the upcoming Dead or Alive 6, and her name is NiCO. What’s interesting is that her chosen fighting technique is Pencak Silat, our very own signature and local Southeast Asian martial art.

Not only does NiCO kick butt with Pencak Silat, but she is also known as the ‘Lightning Technomancer,’ boosting her martial art skills with plasma surges. Her scientific brilliance also allows her to move at lightning speeds, making it seem like she teleports at times.

Her role in Dead or Alive 6 will be that of a genius scientist entrusted with Donovan’s secret M.I.S.T. development project. Although she might not appear to be Southeast Asian, it’s still an honor to see our traditional local martial arts being represented in a fighting game yet again.

This is not the first time that Pencak Silat has been featured in a game, (and hopefully) nor will it be the last. The ancient martial art has been featured in three Mortal Kombat games, including Deception, Unchained, and Armageddon. It is used by the character Baraka in those games.

Additionally, the developer and publisher have also confirmed two more returning characters in Dead or Alive 6. These include the Ba Ji Quan master Kokoro and ‘The Immortal Butterfly’ La Mariposa.

Dead or Alive 6 is slated to release for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 15, 2018. Check out the Dead or Alive 6 NiCO reveal trailer below.
