Konami Launching Playable Contra Collectibles This Holiday
By Alleef Ashaari|July 16, 2019|1 Comment
My Arcade is joining forces with Konami to launch a line of playable collectibles featuring the Japanese developer’s iconic run-and-gun franchise, Contra. The initial lineup of products is set to include the compact desktop Micro Player and handheld Pocket Player, which are slated to release sometime in holiday 2019.
Both products will feature a co-op multiplayer mode, as players can link up two of the same devices to play together. The Micro Player will only feature the original arcade version of Contra (1987) while the Pocket Player will include both the original arcade versions of Contra (1987) and Super Contra (1988).
Konami Cross Media NY Vice President of Licensing and Marketing Jennifer Coleman said:
“Our mission is to find unique and exciting ways to extend Konami’s iconic game franchises.
The expansion of the Contra game line into standalone, compact versions, thanks to our partners at My Arcade, provides a unique opportunity for its millions of fans around the world to show their love for the game.
We are happy to develop this new line of products with them for this popular title.â€
It’s a good time for Konami to release these nostalgic products, as the next installment in the franchise is slated to arrive soon with the release of Contra: Rogue Corps for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 24 September 2019.

Using an arcade screenshot for the handheld version? That better be true, or they’ll be in a lot of trouble.
