Esports Giant 100 Thieves Disbands Apex Legends Team
By Alleef Ashaari|August 28, 2019|0 Comment
100 Thieves is one of the biggest esports organizations in the US, with teams in popular games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite. In a recent post on their official Twitter account, they unexpectedly announced the disbandment of their Apex Legends team.
No reason was given for the shocking announcement, though it may have something to do with the 100 Thieves Apex Legends team performing well at esports tournaments. The team (consisting of Justin ‘Teenage’ Phipps, Isaiah ‘Lifted’ Slowik, and Justin ‘JP2’ Pate) greatest achievement to date has been getting second place at the Rivalcade Apex Legends August Rumble just several days ago.
Today we part ways with our Apex Legends team. Thank you @Teenage, @100T_lifted, and @100T_JP2 for representing 100 Thieves during your competitive Apex career. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. pic.twitter.com/OG55u19wwV

It looks like that wasn’t enough for 100 Thieves, as the team has previously been placing in the bottom half of most tournaments. The Apex Legends esports scene is dwindling, with other major teams like Cloud9 and Immortals also having recently disbanding their teams.
It’s not entirely accurate to say that Apex Legends esports is losing its spark, especially since the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational and Twitch Rivals TwitchCon San Diego will both be taking place in September, each boasting a whopping US$500,000 prize pool.
