Yakuza 7 Announced, Will Feature New Location And Combat System
By Burhanudin Zamri|August 29, 2019|0 Comment
You read that right, punks. The seventh Yakuza game has finally been officially announced and it will be called Ryu Ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue. In English, that literally translates to Like A Dragon 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness.

Here’s what we know so far:
For the first time in the Yakuza series, we won’t be playing as Kazuma Kiryu. Getting an upgrade from his role in Ryu Ga Gotoku Online, Kasuga Ichiban will be Yakuza 7’s protagonist.
Apparently, Kasuga is a big fan of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest and Sega has obtained permission from Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii to feature the popular JRPG in certain scenarios.
In a similar tone to Kazuma’s journey in Yakuza 0, the game will tell the story of Kasuga’s own struggle and attempts to rise up the ranks of Japanese organised crime. Also making a return from Ryu Ga Gotoku Online is his boss and father figure, Masumi Arakawa who has apparently betrayed the Tojo Clan.
In past Yakuza games, locations were fictional but based on real life places in Japan. Kamurocho was designed heavily based on KabukichÅ and Sotenbori was modeled after Dotonbori, an entertainment district in Osaka.
Yakuza 7 switches things up by being directly set in Yokohama, an actual city that exists in Japan. According to Game’sTalk.net, the Yokohama map will be three times the size of Kamurocho and will be the biggest free-roam location in the series so far.
I wish I was joking but there’s actual footage that show the game’s combat being played in a turn-based system that heavily mirrors the combat systems of games like Persona 5 and Dragon Quest XI.
According to Gematsu, familiar mechanics like picking up objects around you and using them as weapons will still be in the game. There’s also going to be real-time physics. Game’sTalk.net reports that there will also be a leveling and class system of sorts and each class will play a different role during combat.
Sega has announced that Yakuza 7 will be released only for the PS4 on 16 January 2020 in Japan. Fans everywhere else will have to wait as there’s still no specific release date yet for the English version but it’s set to be released in 2020.
Unfortunately, there’s no news of the game being made for PC or other consoles.
