You May Want To Hold Off Getting Cyberpunk 2077 For Now…

Computer role-playing game fans looking for their cyberpunk fix in CD Projekt’s latest, out now by the way, may want to wait a while before spending US$60 and above on the triple-A title.

According to a heckaton of Twitter posts and news feed, the game has a ton of bugs and glitches, arguably moreso than their previous blockbuster CRPG The Witcher 3. This is apparent on the base Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game, which not only has glitches from the PC versions but also a lot of optimization-related issues that just makes the game barely playable. Last gen woes, in other words.

Keep in mind that these aforementioned issues will not show up if you’re running the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 on next-gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Also, keep in mind that footage that exists prior to the 10th December “Day Zero” update will contain worst glitches and bugs.

Of course, the PC version of the game plays just fine and comes out unscathed. Sure, there seems to be some foliage that pops up now and again, but that’s been patched out by recent graphic driver updates. Still, some issues pop up on the PC version. NSFW glitch at the end; you’ve been warned.

Our CyberTake

We are currently 10 hours or so in Cyberpunk 2077, playing the Xbox One version on the Xbox Series X console. Apart from slight frame rate drops on performance mode and the “draw in” issues during daytime Night City segments, and the occasional missing HUD during non-story bits which required a reload, the game plays just fine.

It’s still absurd that in this day and age publishers still want to release games in its current state just to satiate shareholder and gamer demands. In a way, this also ties in to the company’s alleged mismanagement and eventual crunch work periods covered in great detail by the media.

However, seeing as CD Projekt’s starting point has always been PC gaming, and the fact that in hindsight the company could have just opted to release the console versions after the PC version (optimization takes time), you could chalk this up to the company biting off more than they can chew. I doubt the company would lose much if they opted to release the game just for PC, and then worry about the console versions at some point; probably early next year.

Still, if releasing unoptimized base versions of the game means more publicity, even the bad kind, CD Projekt got their wish. In the meantime, enjoy the following trending Cyberpunk 2077 memes using the “PS4 1.00, below 720p” joke.
