UiTM, MMU & IIUM Come Out Tops In University e-League

The winners of the University e-League (UEL) powered by KITKAT CHUNKY have been announced following several weeks of intense competition as university teams from across the country battled for the championship. Held between 9 July until 11 August 2021, the competition saw over 70 teams compete for a total prize pool of RM20,000 across three game titles including DOTA 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and League of Legends Wild Rift.

In the DOTA 2 category, Team MMU from Multimedia University (MMU) went undefeated to clinch the title while Sunway University and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) took second and third place respectively.

Meanwhile in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang category, IIUM Mustang from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) held convincing victories against rival teams to earn the championship, while Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) took the remaining podium spots.

In the League of Legends: Wild Rift category, team No Luck from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) held dominant performances to be crowned champions, while Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) claimed second and third place respectively.

The winning teams in each game category took home RM2,500 in cash, while the runner-up and second runner-up took RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively. As part of UEL’s development programme, the winners of each category will soon have the opportunity to represent their university at international friendly matches against other collegiate teams in Southeast Asia.

Team MMU DOTA 2 captain Jackie Foo said:

“We feel extremely proud to have been given this experience to compete in the University e-League this season.

Thankfully our hard work and dedication to prepare for the competition has paid off and we are grateful to Multimedia University (MMU) for their full support and encouragement on this journey.”

Adrian Gaffor, Head of Business Development at University e-League said,

“The level of talent and competition between universities at UEL brings to light the authentic culture of esports that we love.

We celebrate the values of dedication and teamwork showcased by the university teams in the competition.”

Commenting on the success of UEL, he added:

“University e-League would not be possible without our proud partners: KITKAT CHUNKY, Mountain Dew Malaysia and SEGi University & Colleges who have shown tremendous support for homegrown esports talent and strived to create meaningful opportunities for students and esports enthusiasts nationwide.”

The University e-League powered by KITKAT CHUNKY also marked KITKAT CHUNKY’s venture into the Malaysian esports scene to empower young talent. Acknowledging the challenges faced by passionate student gamers and esports enthusiasts, KITKAT CHUNKY features a “POWER UP” campaign to encourage gamers to step away from their screen, enjoy a break in the form of their favourite chocolate and re-charge in an effort to feel re-energized before continuing on gaming.

While the University e-League draws to a close for three game categories, the UEL MGA: Valorant series is still underway with the Wild Card round and Grand Finals happening between 14 August to 12 September 2021.
