Sony Patents New PlayStation Controller With A Ton Of New Features
By Alisha Alix|October 19, 2023|1 Comment
Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently obtained a patent for a new controller that integrates a charging feature and built-in storage for wireless earbuds. This innovative concept was formally documented in a patent filed by Sony last week.
The patent document displays various ideas regarding the storage of earbuds. These concepts include attaching them to the back of the controller or utilizing a traditional DualSense-style touchpad that can be flipped up to unveil a compact compartment, indicating that the configuration had not yet been finalized.
This innovative product aims to streamline the gaming experience by eliminating the cumbersome process of pairing a controller and headphones to a console separately. Additionally, it eliminates the need to worry about managing multiple battery life statuses. Users can effortlessly charge their controller, earbuds, and the case for the earbuds all at once, saving them time and hassle.
A section of the patent includes statements made by Sony regarding the idea, such as “As portability and gaming anywhere becomes mainstream and important, so does the audio experience using microphones paired with a computing device,” This aligns closely with Sony’s current endeavours, exemplified by the launch of their dedicated Remote Play device, the PlayStation Portal, and the introduction of a new range of PlayStation audio products.
The company recently announced plans to launch its first wireless earbuds, called Pulse Explore, as well as a PS5 remote play device, PlayStation Portal.
The PlayStation Portal will launch on 15 November 2023 for US$199.99 (approximately RM953.05), while Pulse Explore’s release date has yet to be confirmed.
