Best Open World Games To Play While Waiting For GTA 6

Are you eagerly waiting for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI? The wait can be frustrating but don’t worry, there are plenty of open-world games to keep you entertained in the meantime.

From taking down criminals in 1940s LA to basking in the neon lights of Night City, many titles offer a similar gaming experience to GTA. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the best open-world games that you can play while waiting for the highly anticipated release of GTA VI in 2025.

L.A Noire

Developer: Team Bondi, Rockstar Leeds
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam
Released Date: 9 November 2011

L.A. Noire presents a thorough and true-to-life representation of 1940s Los Angeles, allowing you to experience both its luxurious and gritty aspects. Instead of engaging in bank robberies, police chases, and gang warfare, your objective will be to solve various crimes throughout the city of Los Angeles.

The action-adventure title offers an immersive experience that can be compared to an interactive movie, allowing you to investigate crime scenes, follow leads, and bring criminals to justice. The well-written dialogue, chase sequences, and shootouts add to the excitement and make the game even more enjoyable. It’s interesting to note that L.A. Noire was also published by Rockstar, which is why some similarities with GTA can be observed.

Yakuza 0

Developer: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio
Platforms: PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC via Steam
Released Date: 1 August 2018

Yakuza 0 has some similarities with GTA, but it’s unique in its own way. The game has a small but dense world with many things to do other than follow the fantastic storyline. Its most significant feature is its attention to detail. In any Yakuza game, the city is the most crucial character in the game’s crime epic. This includes several places to visit, such as hostess bars, SEGA arcades, sushi restaurants, and backstreets, where you can find several collectables and odd jobs to complete.

This prequel delves into the captivating fictional city of Kamurocho, where players assume the role of two of the most iconic characters in the Yakuza franchise, Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. In this engrossing RPG, players will have the chance to showcase their skills by throwing both money and fists at any problem they encounter.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Developer: Hangar 13
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC via Steam
Released Date: 25 September 2020

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of the 2002 titled Mafia and is considered one of the best title remakes. Unlike other games that imitate GTA, Mafia Definitive prioritizes telling an engaging crime story with intricate characters and intriguing plot twists.

In this game, the narrative takes place within the fictional city of Lost Heaven, Illinois, during the 1930s. It revolves around the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo, a Sicilian American cab driver who eventually joins the Salieri crime family. Although some of the gameplay elements may seem dated, we believe there is still plenty for GTA fans to appreciate.

Watch Dogs 2

Developer: Ubisoft
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC via Steam

Similar to GTA, traversing the open world is a prominent feature of Watch Dogs 2. Players will have access to a wide range of vehicles, from cars to buses, quad bikes to boats, and many others. Additionally, the game places a strong emphasis on the parkour method of movement, allowing players to navigate the environment with agility and precision.

Set in virtual San Francisco, you assume the role of Marcus Holloway, one of the members of the hacker group DedSec. Players can use hacking skills to infiltrate and disrupt billionaire companies and craft useful gadgets with a sticker-plastered 3D printer. Watch Dogs 2 offers various approaches to missions, utilizing hacking skills and environmental elements to overcome obstacles, sneak past enemies, or create a more destructive path.

This open-world game is truly stylish and provides ample opportunities to experiment with the tools at hand.
