AirAsia Takes Off On VTuber Bandwagon With Aozora Kurumi [Update]

AirAsia is set to introduce its first virtual idol, Aozora Kurumi ushering in a new age of streaming content in ASEAN. The virtual idol is part of AirAsia’s Project Kavvaii, a programme to discover and develop the next big virtual idol in Asean launched in March this year.

Clad in a Victorian-style outfit with her trusted pet Jetson, Aozora Kurumi is designed by a renowned illustrator artist in the virtual idol community, Yueko. She was brought to life by industry veteran Iron Vertex, with vocals provided by a talent chosen from the Project Kavvaii open audition held recently in March around ASEAN and beyond.

The virtual idol will generate exciting online content in gaming and lifestyle categories with live broadcasts while participating in engaging online and offline activities in the near future. Aozora Kurumi’s debut is set to stream on YouTube on 8 May 2021 at 8pm (GMT +8).

In addition, to further take its virtual content to the next level, AirAsia will be working with pixiv, the top online community for artists in Japan and across the world. There will be multiple efforts in this collaborative partnership, including an exclusive fan art contest for Aozora Kurumi herself this coming September and a dedicated pixiv channel on AirAsia wifi which will showcase exclusive content from the pixivision platform.

Rudy Khaw, Chief Brand Officer of AirAsia Group said:

“We are proud to introduce our first virtual idol today which we foresee will be a game-changer in the future of streaming content in ASEAN.

As a digital company, the constant change in the way people consume online content drives us to explore cross-industry innovations with Project Kavvaii to stay relevant and ahead of trends.

We are also very excited to have pixiv onboard this journey which would bring us closer to the community and hope to see Aozora Kurumi taking the content world by storm very soon!”

You can follow Aozora Kurumi on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for the latest updates and stay tuned for her first debut live stream on 8th May 2021 at 8pm (GMT +8).

[Update]: The Project Kavvaii folks have revealed Aozora Kurumi’s current video game stream schedule:

11th May, 8pm GMT+8 – Outlast
13th May, 8pm GMT+8 – Sam and Max
15th May, 8pm GMT+8 – Karaoke Night
16th May, 3pm GMT+8 – Outlast
