Eternals Final Trailer Explains How It Ties To The MCU

Marvel Studios has released the final trailer for its upcoming Eternals, ahead of its slated premiere date of 5 November 2021.

Eternals Takes Place Post-Avengers Endgame

Ajak (Salma Hayek).

At the beginning of the trailer, Ajak (played by Salma Hayek) explains the situation at hand to Ikaris (played by Richard Madden). She also confirms that the events of the movie take place post-Avengers Endgame.

She said:

“Five years ago, Thanos erased half of the population of the universe. But the people of this planet brought everyone back with a snap of a finger.”

However, the events have caused an unexpected conflict for them, as “the sudden return of the population provided the necessary energy for the emergence to begin.”

The emergence of the Deviants? The Deviants are the ancient enemies of the Eternals.

The Reason Why The Eternals Have Never Appeared In The MCU

One of the Deviants.

Later in the trailer, we see that Sersi (played by Gemma Chan) tells Dane Whitman (played by Kit Harrington) she’s an Eternal. She and the rest of the immortal heroes, the Eternals, came here 7,000 years ago, since the dawn of man, to “protect humans from the Deviants.”

Dane wants to understand why didn’t they help fight Thanos or any of the other terrible events that unfolded throughout history.

Sersi replied:

“We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved.”

Well, that conveniently explains why the Eternals have never interfered in the human world before; all in one brief sentence.

Who instructed the Eternals not to interfere? Well, it was the Celestials (who created them in the first place).

One of the Celestials.

This Will Be The Eternals’ First Reunion In Centuries

Sersi also reveals that she hasn’t seen some of the other Eternal teammates for centuries. With the monstrous creatures, the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, Ikaris decides that it’s time for them to “find the others” and defend humanity once again.

As the epic story unfolds, Sersi and Ikaris reunite with Kingo (played by Kumail Nanjiani), Sprite (played by Lia McHugh), Gilgamesh (played by Don Lee), Thena (played by Angelina Jolie), Makkari (played by Lauren Ridloff), Phastos (played by Brian Tyree Henry), and Druig (played by Barry Keoghan).

The Leader Of The Deviants Is Named Kro

In the trailer, the Deviant Kro can be heard saying to the Eternals, “You can’t protect any of them.”
