Invincible Season 2 Episode 1 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

The first episode of Invincible Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video Malaysia. Check out my spoiler-free review of Invincible Season 2 by heading over here.

The synopsis reads:

Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.

Starring Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons. Joining the Season 2 cast are Sterling K. Brown, Peter Cullen, Rob Delaney, Calista Flockhart, Phil LaMarr, Luke MacFarlane, Tatiana Maslany, Scott McNairy, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Rhea Seehorn, Lea Thompson, Paul F. Tompkins, Shantel VanSanten, and more.

Created by Robert Kirkman (and artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley), Invincible revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson who learns that he has inherited incredible powers from his superhero alien father, Omni-Man. The comic series ran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2018, with many spinoffs and its own cohesive shared universe.

The first season of Invincible premiered back in March 2021, which is now almost two years ago. We’re looking forward to seeing more of Invincible. In the meantime, check out our review of the first season here, or head on over here for what comics to check out while waiting for Invincible Season 2.

I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.

We Get A Glimpse Of An Alternate Version Of Mark Grayson, Where He Takes Over The World With His Father

The first episode of Invincible Season 2 begins with a glimpse into a world where Mark Grayson AKA Invincible decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and take over the world.

This is one of many evil Invincible variants who will take part in the upcoming Invincible War story arc. In the comics during the events of the Invincible War, Dr. Angstrom Levy brings a bunch of alternate versions of evil Mark Graysons AKA Invincibles from across the Multiverse to attack the entire world.

Angstrom Levy Will Be The First Main Antagonist Of Invincible Season 2

In the comics, Angstrom Levy has the unexplained ability to open portals to the multiverse. With that power, he can access other worlds and alternate universes. It looks like this version is basically the same.

Bulletproof Joins The Guardians Of The Globe

In the comics, Zandale Randolph AKA Bulletproof can store kinetic energy in his body and fly, as well as have super strength. He’s basically a much weaker version of a Viltrumite.

In the comics, he even had to replace Mark Grayson as Invincible at one point for a reason (which I won’t spoil yet).

Angstrom Levy Blames Mark Grayson And That’s Why He Wants Revenge

Invincible interrupted his multiverse knowledge transfer process and the Angstrom Levy now looks like a freak after the explosion. He blames Invincible for what happened to him, and he now also has knowledge of the multiverse, so he’s also negatively influenced by the feelings of other alternate Angstrom Levys, who had evil Invincibles on their worlds.

Until next week, excelsior!
