M5 World Championship – Day 12: A Yellow-Painted M5 World Championship Finale
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|December 17, 2023|1 Comment
On Day 6 of the M5 World Championship Knockouts, sweeping statements were made, setting the stage for a Manila-dominated Grand Finals painted in yellow! Today’s clash between AP.Bren and ONIC Esports promises an explosion of yellow, marking the return of an Indonesian team to an M-Series title series after four years, the last being RRQ Hoshi at M1 in 2019.
The Knockouts’ longest day kicked off with Blacklist International sweeping Deus Vult, securing a Lower Bracket Finals spot. This concluded Deus Vult’s impressive run, securing their highest-ever placement in an M-Series at fourth. The Codebreakers dominated, limiting Magistor from Deus Vult to just one turtle in the entire series, much to the delight of local fans.
However, the joy for local fans turned to disappointment in the Upper Bracket Finals. ONIC Esports swept AP.Bren, marking the second sweep of the day, and securing their first appearance in an M-Series Grand Final. Despite a strong showing in Game 1, AP.Bren struggled in Games 2 and 3, leading to their drop to the lower bracket.
In the subsequent Lower Bracket Finals, AP.Bren triumphed over Blacklist International in a repeat of the Season 12 Grand Finals, completing sweep #3. Owgwen played a pivotal role, earning two MVP accolades. The comeback reflects AP.Bren’s impressive mental fortitude and physical stamina, setting the stage for their rematch against ONIC in the title series.
