She-Hulk Episode 2 Breakdown & Easter Eggs
By Alleef Ashaari|August 25, 2022|4 Comments
The first episode of She-Hulk Attorney At Law is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.
Check out my spoiler-free review of She-Hulk here.
The synopsis reads:
In Marvel Studios’ “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany)—an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases must navigate the complicated life of a single, 30-something who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The nine-episode comedy series welcomes a host of MCU vets, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong, as well as Jameela Jamil, Josh Segarra, Ginger Gonzaga, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
The series is directed by Kat Coiro (Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9) and Anu Valia (Episodes 5, 6, 7) with Jessica Gao as head writer. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Coiro and Gao.
Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar, we were given the opportunity to interview She-Hulk head writer, executive producer and showrunner, Jessica Gao. She is also best known for winning an Emmy Award for writing the famous Pickle Rick episode on the Rick And Morty animated series.
In the meantime, Jessica Gao also recently revealed that She-Hulk scrapped plans to include meta comic book text boxes in our coverage of the recent press conference.

A reporter coins the name She-Hulk and it immediately catches on.
Jennifer gets fired because now that she’s She-Hulk, she’s a liability in court. The title funnily changes to reflect her new situation and it seems to be a play on the words, Heroes For Hire. In the comics, Heroes For Hire is what Luke Cage and Iron Fist called themselves.
At a family dinner, Jennifer’s father mentions Hawkeye, asking if he ever picks up the arrows after shooting them.
Holden Holliway is a partner in the New York law firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway (GLK&H). The name of the law firm is actually based on some of the founding members of Marvel Comics.
Her first case as the head of the superhuman law division is to represent Emil Blonsky AKA the Abomination for his parole.
Jennifer goes to a DODC prison to meet her new client, Emil Blonsky. The last time we saw the DODC was quite recent; in the Ms. Marvel series as the main antagonists who wanted to hunt down Kamala Khan and the Clandestines.
The first time that we saw Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky and the Abomination was back in 2021’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings when Wong fought him and was apparently training him for something before bringing him back to the prison.
In the conversation between Jennifer and Emil Blonsky, Jennifer refers to Emil’s rampage in Harlem, which happened at the end of 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
She-Hulk is a meta show that breaks the fourth wall, but this was still funny as hell. Bruce basically said that all was forgiven between him and Emil Blonsky and that what happened in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk was so long ago that he was “a completely different person, literally.”
For those who don’t remember, Bruce Banner was played by Edward Norton in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
Turns out I was right, maybe Marvel is planning a more proper Planet Hulk adaptation, or maybe even World War Hulk.
Thor Ragnarok loosely adapted the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics, but we never received a proper adaptation. Maybe this teases that a proper Planet Hulk or even World War Hulk adaptations are coming to the MCU in the future. Fingers crossed.
It turns out that everything that happened in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings hasn’t happened yet, and She-Hulk is taking place concurrently with that. In Shang-Chi, Abomination fought Wong in a cage match in Macau, before Wong sent him back there via a portal.
The post-credits scene is another gag and this time it’s Jennifer helping her father with chores around the house.
Until next week, excelsior!
