Daredevil Born Again Premieres With Most Shocking MCU Opening Episodes Yet

The first two episodes of Daredevil Born Again are now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.

The synopsis reads:

In Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

The series also stars Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, with Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal. Dario Scardapane is showrunner. It’s Only The First Few Minutes Of The First Episode And We’re Already Reunited With The Main Trio

This is the first time we’re seeing these characters on-screen together since the end of Daredevil Season 3 on Netflix in 2019.

Our First Look At The Debut Of White Tiger In The MCU

Late actor Kamar de los Reyes (he passed away in December 2023) plays Hector Ayala AKA the White Tiger, a vigilante superhero who makes his MCU debut via news coverage on TV.

White Tiger is notable for being the first Latin American superhero for Marvel Comics, the first US Latino superhero, and the first Puerto Rican superhero.

In the comics, White Tiger gets his mystical powers from three mystical tiger amulets (a head and two paws) which come from the extra-dimensional realm of K’un-L’un. When wearing the amulets, Hector’s physical strength, speed, stamina, agility, dexterity, reflexes & reactions, coordination, balance, and endurance were all enhanced.

Daredevil Suits Up And The Iconic Netflix Daredevil Theme Officially Returns

It’s great that Marvel Studios chose to keep the iconic Netflix Daredevil opening theme music.

Damn, Foggy Gets Shot And Killed By Bullseye

Wilson Bethel reprises his role as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter AKA Bullseye from the Netflix series and shockingly shoots and kills several people, including Foggy.

In Retaliation, Daredevil Attempts To Kill Bullseye By Throwing Him Off A Building

However, Bullseye is somehow still breathing after falling off a building.

Daredevil Born Again Unveils A New Version Of The Iconic Daredevil Theme Music

It’s beautiful.

We Fast Forward One Year Later, And Foggy Is Confirmed To Be Dead

It’s revealed that he has stopped being Daredevil since that tragic incident.

It Hasn’t Been That Long Since We Last Saw The Kingpin

Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk AKA the Kingpin after already appearing in 2021’s Hawkeye and 2024’s Echo.

When we last saw him in Echo, he survived getting shot by Maya Lopez AKA Echo and it’s revealed that he is running as a candidate for the mayor of New York City.

This echoes (pun intended) the storyline, Devil’s Reign, in Marvel Comics when he was elected the mayor of NYC and outlawed vigilantes like Daredevil and Spider-Man.

Bullseye Is Sentenced To Life In Prison For The Death Of Foggy

Justice is served to Mr Benjamin Leonard Poindexter.

Wilson Fisk Is Planning To Outlaw Vigilantes, Just Like In The Devil’s Reign Comics

Let the Devil’s Reign begin.

In His First Speech As Mayor, Fisk Mentions The Punisher, Spider-Man And Daredevil As Examples Of Vigilantes

It’s great to hear him acknowledge Spider-Man’s existence.

Hector Ayala AKA The White Tiger Accidentally Kills A Cop While Breaking Up Police Brutality And Is Apprehended

Matt Murdock stumbles into him and takes his case, promising to defend him in court.

BB Urich Is The Niece Of Ben Urich, Who Fisk Killed In An Earlier Season Of Daredevil For Uncovering His Crimes

And now she’s helping support the murderer of her own uncle without knowing.

Hector Mentions His Amulet When Matt Learns That He Is The White Tiger

Just like in the comics, the White Tiger gets his/her/their powers from the amulet.

However, Hector wasn’t wearing his amulet when he was entangled with the cops so he had no powers.

The Episode Ends With Matt Murdock Beating Up A Bunch Of Corrupt Cops

It looks like Matt will have no choice but to become Daredevil again.
