Ahsoka Season 1 Episode 1 & 2 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

The first two episodes of Ahsoka Season 1 are now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.

Check out my spoiler-free review of Ahsoka by heading over here.

Set after the fall of the Empire, “Star Wars: Ahsoka” follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, “Ahsoka” stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is the co-executive producer.

Meanwhile, check out my breakdown of The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7 and Episode 8 here.

Check out my breakdown of the first three episodes of Andor, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, Episode 8, Episode 9, Episode 10, Episode 11 and Episode 12 here.

Check out my breakdown of Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 and 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5 and Episode 6 here.

You can check out my previous breakdowns of The Book Of Boba Fett Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6 and Episode 7 here.

Last year, we were given the opportunity to interview none other than the former Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and current Dark Lord Of The Sith Darth Vader; Hayden Christensen himself.

Ahsoka Episode 1 Begins With The Franchise’s Iconic Opening Crawl, Which Is A First For A Disney+ Star Wars Series

None of the other previous Star Wars series and shows on Disney+ has had the classic opening crawl. That being said, the opening crawl text in Ahsoka Episode 1 is a bit off because it isn’t slanted like the usual iconic style of the opening crawl text in the movies.

The Late Ray Stevenson Makes His Debut As Baylan Skoll

Ray Stevenson passed away several months ago in May 2023, and this is the late actor as the new antagonist known only as Baylan Skoll for now.

RIP to the late actor.

Baylan Skoll And Shin Hati Break Into A New Republic Ship To Free Morgan Elsbeth

Diana Lee Inosanto reprises her role as the former magistrate of the city of Calodan on the planet Corvus. She is working with Grand Admiral Thrawn and she was captured by Ahsoka Tano back in The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5 ‘The Jedi’.

Now Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati are breaking her out of the New Republic ship, probably because they’re also working with Grand Admiral Thrawn.

You’ll Only Know Who Huyang Is If You Watched Star Wars The Clone Wars

Huyang (voiced by Doctor Who star David Tennant) originally first appeared in the Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series. Huyang was a Mark IV architect droid professor based aboard the Jedi vessel Crucible who, for a thousand generations, taught Jedi younglings, including Grand Master Yoda and Jedi Master Mace Windu, how to construct their lightsabers.

This means that he survived Order 66 and is now helping Ahsoka Tano.

Why Are They Calling Ahsoka ‘ Fulcrum’? You’d Understand If You Watched Star Wars Rebels

In the Star Wars Rebels animated series, Fulcrum was a title used by several Rebel Alliance informants, the first of which was Ahsoka Tano herself.

Hera Syndulla Makes Her Live-Action Debut

Hera Syndulla is a character from Star Wars Rebels and she was part of the original crew of the Ghost. She is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Ahsoka.

The Orb Contains A Star Map To The Location Of Grand Admiral Thrawn

The last time we saw Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars canon was in the last episode of Star Wars Rebels Season 4 when Ezra Bridger and a bunch of Purgill brought Thrawn somewhere unknown and far away. Ahsoka Tano has been searching for them ever since.

The Live Action Debut Of The Planet Lothal And Another Star Wars Rebels Character

This is the first time that we’re seeing the planet Lothal in live-action. Lothal is the home planet of Star Wars Rebels protagonist Ezra Bridger. In this scene, another Star Wars Rebels character makes his live-action debut as well, with Clancy Brown as Ryder Azadi, the former Governor of Lothal and a friend who fought alongside Ezra and the crew of the Ghost.

The Same Mural From The Final Episode Of Star Wars Rebels

This mural first appeared in the final episode of Star Wars Rebels Season 4, depicting the crew of the Ghost. It was drawn by Sabine Wren herself, who is an artist.

Sabine Wren Makes Her Live-Action Debut

Sabine Wren is one of the original members of the crew of the Ghost in Star Wars Rebels. She is played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo in Ahsoka.

Loth-Cats

Yes, Loth-Cats are creatures native to the planet Lothal and first made their debut in the Star Wars Rebels animated series as well.

A Glimpse Of A Mandalorian Helmet

In case you didn’t know (if you haven’t watched Star Wars Rebels), Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian and that’s a Mandalorian helmet under the table. It seems like she hasn’t worn one in a long time.

Ezra Bridger Hologram

Ezra Bridger makes his live-action debut via hologram. He’s played by Eman Esfandi in Ahsoka. Like I previously mentioned, the last time we saw him in Star Wars canon was in the last episode of Star Wars Rebels Season 4 when he and a bunch of Purgill brought Thrawn somewhere unknown and far away.

Morgan Elsbeth Is A Surviving Member Of The Nightsisters Of Dathomir

No wonder she could hold her own fighting Ahsoka Tano.

The Nightsisters Of Dathomir were witches capable of using Force magic on the planet Dathomir, which was also the home planet of Darth Maul. Most of them were killed and murdered by Darth Maul himself in the Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series.

Sabine Wren Trained As A Jedi Under Ahsoka Tano After Star Wars Rebels

This was already revealed in one of the Ahsoka trailers but yeah, it turns out that Sabine Wren used to train as a Jedi under Ahsoka Tano sometime after the end of Star Wars Rebels. However, it looks like they left things off on a sour note and Sabine never completed her training for some as-of-yet unknown reason.

Huyang Confirms That Baylan Skoll Used To Be A Jedi

Huyang recognizes Baylan Skoll as a former Jedi from his lightsaber hilt design.

Sabine Wren Is Using Ezra Bridger’s Green Lightsaber

Yeah, that’s Ezra Bridger’s green lightsaber that Sabine Wren is using.

Shin Hati Wins In A Duel Against Sabine Wren, Stabbing Her In The Ribs

In a shocking turn of events, Sabine Wren gets stabbed by a lightsaber.

Is she dead?

Let’s see in Episode 2.

Episode 2

Sabine Wren Is Still Alive

Sabrine survived getting stabbed in the side by Shin Hati’s lightsaber.

Thrawn Is Somewhere Outside The Known Galaxy

According to the star map, Thrawn is apparently located somewhere outside the known galaxy using a way called the Pathway To Peridea.

Chopper And The Ghost In Live-Action

C1-10P, or Chopper, is the C-1 Astromech that was part of the Ghost crew in Star Wars Rebels. It’s nice to see his debut in live-action, along with the Ghost itself.

Huyang Says That Sabine’s Force-Sensitivity Is Weak

Huyang says that her “Force aptitude” falls short of every Padawan he’s seen, but he still encourages her to keep training as a Jedi. What’s the point if she’s not that Force-sensitive?

Just As Seen In The Mandalorian, There Are Still Some Imperial Sympathisers

On Corellia, Ahsoka and Hera encounter Imperial supporters and sympathisers, who are hiding a mysterious shipment transporting material for the construction of something unknown.

Marrok Appears

We still don’t know who Marrok is. He seems to be surviving Inquisitor, but that doesn’t make sense considering almost all of them have died. This is a tantalizing mystery.

Sabine Wren Goes Back To Wearing Her Mandalorian Armour And Her Original Star Wars Rebels Haircut

Morgan Elsbeth And The Imperial Remnants Are Building Something Called The Eye Of Sion

Apparently, the Eye Of Sion will help reach Grand Admiral Thrawn in the “far galaxy”, so it’s probably a giant portal or something.

Maybe the Eye Of Sion will utilize the World Between Worlds to cut across time and space or something.

That’s it, folks, it’s been a wild first two episodes for Ahsoka.

Until next week, excelsior!
